Reason why I hate Windows # 758,457,290

Ok so here's about 45 mintues to an hour of my life i'm not getting back. Just makes me remember why I hate windows so much. I run windows inside of my imac in case i need it for certain software etc that is too stupid to support macs even though so many people use them.

So we missed the opening olympics thing and heard it was amazing and from the photos it looked really cool. Went to the NBC website, and found the opening thing. SO i click on it and this is what i get...

Yeah love you too. I #$&*ing hate it that places won't support macs. Windows media player sucks, so does windows. But I want to watch it so here's how it goes from there. Plus i just reinstalled windows so it is running at peak performance but figured i might need to download an update or 2 for the video:

  1. open windows up
  2. get explorer open, sluggish as always
  3. go to the nbc website and find the video for the opening ceremony
  4. click on the thing, luckily didn't get the same image as above
  5. instead it tells me that i need windows media player
  6. i go and download that, yay, i hate windows media player
  7. it finally installs, takes forever, but makes me close all of my browser windows good thing i wasn't on the page i wanted or anything, idiots
  8. open explorer back up and navigate to the page
  9. do the little test video bull shit, and it says i'm good to go
  10. hit the download button, and explorer crashes
  11. open it back up same process, bam crashes again, great
  12. had to go and get a beer to subside anger
  13. restart windows
  14. back in IE, back to where i wanted to be, test says it's a go
  15. click on the download link, some crap from nbc, a player for them i need to download (wait a second didn't it need the newest windows media player i just downloaded and nbc has their own player, wtf)
  16. so i start this nbc bullsh*t
  17. it check to see if the computer can handle it (of course it can) oh wait it's missing a part of windows that doesn't download during a normal windows update, yeah that's smart.
  18. off i go to get that piece of the puzzle, takes for-ev-er to download and install.
  19. now i can start the nbc crap again, now it tells me i need to become a member, blush*t again.
  20. I sign up
  21. now it's going through it's whole download of it's thing shenanigans, hopefully it will be done soon.
  22. i expect the video to look crappy and take forever to download, we'll see
SO that's where I'm at. Couldn't they make it nice and easy like abc does when i want to watch lost. click button, window opens (on my mac!) and it streams my HD video. No downloading, no signing up, no crap. Must be hard to make it that easy.

Do they think many people are going to go through that to watch the video, i highly doubt it. why do they have to make it so #@&!ing hard...

Ok i'm back. just clicked the button on it after all of that. THEN had to verify my address. Now it says it has to apply some patch to windows media player 11 (the newest one) to make it work. We're up just over an hour for this now...

Just had to close all the windows again for to install.

Finally clicked the button for the opening ceremony. It says it will tart shortly, i highly doubt it.

update:  so the video finally downloaded and it was like a 5 minute recap of the opening stuff. They didn't say that though. So i went back to the nbc website an found the original link and clicked download from there (instead of in the crappy nbc player thing) and then it just says "download request accepted" and nothing else happens. So i read the bottom and it says just click download and it will do it's thing and let you know when the file is ready. So i let it sit there while i did other things for an hour, came back, and nothing happened. Such crap. I go back to the fact that why does it have to be that hard, just do it the way ABC has it set up, such a better system. I know the NBC thing is a beta, but it sucks and they need to realize that quick.

I missed seeing it too and heard that it was awesome. If you do find an easy way to view it let me know.

I'm surprised it's not on youtube. I didn't see it either. But it sounds like you need a drink after that mess- hopefully your beer of the month has shown up :) Oh and Christina I am enjoying some project runway at the moment and thought of you!

i found a few small clips on you tube but they were super low quality, but i'm betting nbc is cracking down on the you tube stuff. they always put the smack down when snl shows up on there.

i just don't get why it has to be so hard. i just want good quality video.
