I hate the USPS so much

Over the past couple months, my anger with shipping services (mostly the Post Office) has been growing.

I have received boxes with holes in them (christina's replacement desk, which i could see the desk inside the box and it was scuffed). I have received mail in a special envelope from them saying that they were sorry that they destroyed my mail, and got it to me "extra" fast.

I got a poster in the mail and it must have been thrown around so much the edges of the poster were crinkled because it had been handled roughly.

I sent my large dutch design poster to my parents, to have it framed finally after 2 years. So it was treated roughly to and the same thing happened. I packed it extra carefully and was smart enough to put insurance on it, so i am going to have a claim against the USPS for that one.

Most recently, as in yesterday, I got the last poster i plan on buying for awhile. I was happy to see the tube leaning against the door when we got home from Indy. But it looked a bit funny, odd angle and a white streak near the top. They actually managed to treat it like **** enough to crack the freaking shipping tube it was in. Not on a seam either, between the seams. I don't know what the hell they did it it but seriously what the hell. I am taking the tube in to the post office tomorrow to yell at them a bit for this one. They've gone too far.

Between these two times (more like 3, but 2 times being shipped to me, and one time shipping to someone else) that they have damaged my mail, I received 2 different posters, all in perfect shape. So it's not like it's a problem with a machine somewhere and everything that comes in a tube gets damaged. It's somewhere in the process of it getting to me and someone throws my crap around. When i shipped the poster to my parents, i even asked the guy if he could mark it fragile a few times (and i was smart enough for the insurance there...) since the last thing i got was damaged. That's what I said to him. So what does he say back to me? "Yeah, sometimes the tubes get thrown around a bit..." OK, not something you should be telling a customer, or how about this. NOT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE HAPPENING!

So this has turned into a really long rant, but I am gearing up for yelling at the guy in the morning. Sadly I will go to the one that is right next to work, and the guy is really nice. I'd much rather go to the the one on 26, cause i don't like some of them there, but it's out of my way and i want to do it first thing in the morning. Maybe i'll go to both of them, see if the nice guy is too nice and then open it up on the other one after work. I know the USPS has no real competition. Yeah you can ship your packages through fedex and UPS, but you're not going to send your mail through them. No, DHL doesn't count as a shipper to me. More of a deliver my ipod to the wrong address, because that house didn't have a number on it, and that MUST be the right house, oh wait, that's the wrong street, hmmmm... i guess basic reading skills and number recognition must not be on the test to work at DHL. What a fun day that was.

So after my angry rant, I leave you with my collection of photos of my damaged mail. I don't have all of them. Honestly, I shouldn't have a need for this collection at all!

Christina's replacement desk (or actually hutch now that i think about it). Nice big gouge out of the bottom. The hutch was scuffed inside of it too, luckily not the piece I needed replacing. But don't get me started on that whole story about the hutch. Another day...

Invitation to the Senior's design show from the spring. Wasn't it nice of the post office to deliver my mail to me like this. Kinda sad that they have envelopes made for this very exact reason. The invitation was placed inside the envelope in the top picture. I didn't want to post the front shot since it had our address on it, and i'm too lazy to blur it out. Surprised they didn't try to charge me for the extra weight of the piece since they actually tried to tape it together.

TA DAAAAAAA!!!!!!!

So there is my poster from yesterday. Still laying up against out front door. It was hard as hell to hold the tube together to get the poster out without further damaging it. Yeah, it didn't make it through in pristine condition.

This would be a limited edition poster by Marion Bantjes for a fundraiser for the Aids in Africa cause. I think there are only 150 or so of these that exist. The poster that got damaged being sent to me the first time was the first poster of this two part series. That one was a limited edition as well. Only 150 in existence, and the artist kept 50 of them...
